Case Study: Building Meaningful Relationships

Building Meaningful Relationships

Jane and Joseph Cooper were referred to JDJ by their accountant, who knew their household employment situation was in disarray. Members of the staff were being paid under the table, there were no employment agreements in place, and some employees were even taking advantage of household credit cards. JDJ addressed the problem by implementing proper background and credit checks, employment agreements, payroll with tax withholding, EPLI and worker’s compensation insurance, and even helping the family terminate problem employees.

As the relationship evolved, Joe asked if we could also help with bill paying for the family. After this task was transitioned, Jane requested comprehensive budget and cash flow reporting to help her understand and manage household expenses. During our next meeting to review the expense and cash flow reporting, Joe asked if we could expand their reporting package to include a full balance sheet, a request we were happy to accommodate.

Fast forward a few years. Jane and Joe have become full-service JDJ clients, calling on us to assist them as well as Jane’s elderly parents. We work closely with the family’s estate attorneys to make sure plans are administered properly, and with their tax advisor to track down and organize all the information needed to prepare their complicated returns. The household is running smoothly, and expenses are understood and anticipated. We also coordinated with the Cooper’s wealth manager to put in place a standard monthly distribution to fund operating expenses, allowing them to manage the family’s portfolio much more efficiently.

In short, the Cooper’s team of advisors is working proactively on their behalf, in regular communication with each other, quarterbacked by the team at JDJ. Joe recently remarked, “I’m so glad to have JDJ watching my back!”
